accommodation is surprisingly varied in Albania for a country with such a low number of tourists, and while for a while monstrous state-owned hotels were the only options, there is now a good selection of good value for money hotels.
As usual, the city Tirana has the widest range of hotels, with accommodation ranging from budget backpacker accommodation to absolute luxury such as the Sheraton and the Rogner. Outside Tirana, accommodation tends to be in family-run guesthouses or large communist-era hotels, most of which have been renovated to at least an acceptable standard. There are high-end hotels in Saranda, Durrësi, Vlora and a couple of beach resorts. As Albania’s tourism sector continues to grow, more hotels are expected.
